Worms W.M.D: The Ultimate Return to 2D Tactical Mayhem

In the pantheon of turn-based strategy games, few franchises have maintained the sticky, explosive charm of Worms. Since the original game launched on the Amiga in 1995, Team17 has experimented with 3D environments, real-time elements, and even RPG mechanics. However, for many fans, the golden era of the series remains the 2D era.

This system rewards creativity and resource management, turning even a losing position into a potential comeback through clever improvisation. Worms W.M.D

  • The Holy Hand Grenade: Count to three, and watch the halo of annihilation.
  • The Concrete Donkey: Summoned from the sky, it obliterates everything in a massive crater.
  • The Super Sheep: A guided missile disguised as livestock.

Customization: True to the series, players can personalize their teams with hundreds of hats, speech banks, and victory dances. Platforms and Accessibility Worms W

  • Vehicles: Worms can now hop into tanks, helicopters, and mechs. These provide extra health, firepower, and mobility. A well-placed tank can shrug off a direct hit and return fire with a cannon, while a helicopter grants a bird’s-eye view for airstrikes. Vehicles can also be exited mid-turn, allowing for creative combo moves.
  • Buildings: For the first time, worms can enter structures, taking cover from incoming fire. Inside a building, a worm is invisible to enemies outside, allowing for ambushes and safe weapon crafting (see below). Buildings add a layer of strategic positioning akin to a light tactics game.

Platforms Released: PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch (2018), iOS (2022 via Netflix Games).

  1. Don't Hoard Workshops: Use workshops immediately. A weapon built is a weapon that can be used this turn.
  2. Destroy Ladders: In previous games, worms could climb infinite ladders. In W.M.D, you can shoot the ladder rungs. Destroy the ladder to trap an enemy on a high ledge.
  3. The Submarine: There is a forgotten vehicle—the Submarine. On water-heavy maps, use it to travel under the surface and surface directly under an enemy worm, launching them into the air.
  4. Buildings are not safe: If you see an enemy in a building, throw a Bunker Bomb (homing grenade with a drill) inside, or collapse the structure with a Blowtorch at the foundation.
  5. The Concrete Donkey: Costs 100 gold (very expensive). It drops a heavy donkey statue from the sky. It destroys everything in a massive radius. Use it only when the enemy is clustered.

Since the game doesn't provide a plot, you can create a custom story for your team. Here are themes and elements based on the game's features to help you "prepare" a story for your playthrough:
