Executive Summary

VCDS Lite (v1.2) is a legacy, stripped-down software designed exclusively for 1996–2005 VW, Audi, Seat, and Skoda models with K-Line (ISO 9141-2) diagnostics. The "Registered & Activated" version unlocks basic functionality, but it is not a replacement for the full VCDS (now at v24.x+). It is useful only for hobbyists with older cars and a strict budget.

Hardware Requirements (Critical!)

• Must use a dumb KKL 409.1 cable (blue VAG-COM USB cable ~$10-15 on eBay/Amazon).
• Cannot use a modern Ross-Tech HEX-NET, HEX-V2, or any CAN-capable cable.
• Must manually install Windows drivers (Win XP/7/8/10 32-bit works best; Win 11 64-bit is problematic).
