In Trail Life USA, the badge program is one of the primary methods of education and character development. While there are required badges for rank advancement (Focus Badges), Elective Badges are where a Trailman can explore his personal interests, discover new hobbies, and develop specialized skills.
Types of Elective Badges
Trail Life USA elective badges are skills-based awards that young men in the Navigator (ages 11–13) and Adventurer (ages 14–18) programs can earn to explore personal interests beyond the core requirements. Unlike the 15 required "Core Skills" badges needed for major rank advancement, elective badges are chosen by the Trailman and categorized into seven "Frontiers".
