The Largest Animal in Mongolia: The Giant of the Steppe and the Gobi

When people imagine Mongolia, they often picture the vast, open steppes, the Gobi Desert, and the rugged Altai Mountains. These landscapes are home to a remarkable diversity of wildlife, from the stealthy snow leopard to the hardy Bactrian camel. However, the title of "Mongoliin Khamgiin Tom Amitan" (Монголын хамгийн том амьтан) — the largest animal in the country — belongs to a creature that weighs as much as a military truck and stands taller than any other being on land or in the skies.
