Feature Proposal: "CSR 1000v Smart-OVA Deployment Wizard"

Overview The Cisco Cloud Services Router (CSR) 1000v is a software router that provides routing, security, and network functions virtualization (NFV) across various cloud environments. While deploying the OVA (Open Virtualization Appliance) is a standard industry practice, the current process often requires significant post-deployment configuration via CLI to match specific hypervisor capabilities.

3. Licensing

By default, the CSR 1000v boots with limited throughput (often capped at 100 Kbps or limited features depending on the honor system). To utilize full throughput, you must install a license:

Simplified Deployment: An OVA includes the virtual disk (VMDK), a descriptor file (OVF) containing metadata like hardware requirements, and a manifest file for verification. Platform Optimization: While the Go to product viewer dialog for this item.

Step 1: Download the OVA

Download the appropriate .ova file from Cisco Software Central (requires a valid SmartNet or support contract). The filename typically looks like: csr1000v-universalk9.16.12.04.ova

  1. Download the OVA file: Log in to the Cisco website and download the CSR1000V OVA file.
  2. Launch VMware ESXi: Launch the VMware ESXi client and connect to your ESXi server.
  3. Create a new VM: Click on File > Deploy OVF Template and select the OVA file you downloaded.
  4. Select the deployment configuration: Choose the deployment configuration, including the number of vCPUs, memory, and storage.
  5. Configure the network settings: Configure the network settings, including the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS server.
  6. Power on the VM: Power on the VM and wait for the CSR1000V to boot up.
