- Primary Education (6 years): Divided into National Schools (SK) which use Malay as the medium of instruction, and National-type Schools (SJK) which include Chinese (SJKC) and Tamil (SJKT) primary schools using their respective mother tongues.
- Secondary Education (5 years): Students transition to secondary school at age 13. The majority attend National Secondary Schools (SMK), where the medium of instruction is Malay. High-performing students may enter Fully Residential Schools (Sekolah Berasrama Penuh).
- Pre-University (1-2 years): Before entering university, students undergo Form 6 (STPM) or the Matriculation program.
